What Will You Do if Your Loved One is Exacerbating Your Mental Issues

In my case, it is happening unintentionally

I get so afraid at the prospect of losing sleep or not getting enough of it.

It so happened 4 years ago and it led me into a Psychotic phase. As far as I can recall, I went sleepless for 14–15 days straight. I have been taking medication since.

And any stressful or major event in life still pulls the trigger. I start falling into disarray again.

I was afraid when I was about to get married. It involved three consecutive sleepless nights. But, I made it through without a relapse.

Now, after getting married some two years ago, one thing has been constantly troubling me.

What will I choose — well-being of the love of my life or my mental health?

The story goes like this

I love my sleep very much and I love my wife all the same. She has been suffering from reactive arthritis for the last 2 weeks. And due to this she can not sleep properly at night.

And it is taking its toll on my mental health which ultimately leads to loss of sleep. And so the vicious cycle goes.

My rational and emotional minds are at loggerheads

One of them is saying:
If you take care of your mental health, only then you will be able to support and love her totally.

So, take a brave decision and tell her how your mental health is getting affected due to her.

But my emotional mind is saying:
You love her. And when you love someone you forget yourself (your well-being too). Protect her. Support her. And God will do the same for you.

What ‘I’ will do

I guess I will leave upto God. Let him show me a sign. Let me lead me to the light and help me decide.

Just like Chester sang on the song The Messenger:

When you feel you’re alone
Cut off from this cruel world
Your instincts telling you to run
Listen to your heart
Those angel voices
They’ll see you to you
They’ll be your guide
Back home where life leaves us blind
Love keeps us kind
It keeps us kind
