How To Write To Please Yourself and Keep the Readers Happy Too
If you are happy creating then people will enjoy reading

The subtle art of balancing
Many of us writers like to write just to please ourselves. The process of writing itself gives us joy. Some of us don’t even like to share our writing with other people, much less feel the desire for approval or validation.
But if you are like me who is writing online to feel a sense of connectedness, belonging, and earn money as a byproduct then you would want to write in a way that keeps both the writer inside of you and the outside reader happy.
Writing to please yourself and the readers can be a balancing act. If you focus too much on just pleasing yourself, then you risk alienating your readers. On the other hand, if you focus too much on pleasing your readers, then you may lose the joy and purpose of your writing.
So, how to go about it?
Well, follow along to learn this delicate art:
Write what makes you happy but with a takeaway
Are you willing to pay $5 to read someone’s diary? I guess not unless you are a fan!
If I wrote my heart out, it would definitely make me feel good but why would anyone be itchy to read it?
Readers pay on this platform to read the content. So, they want value out of their investment. Put yourself in their shoes and ask yourself what type of story you want to read. I am sure it is something out of which you derive a valuable lesson or a takeaway.
Give that to the readers.
But if you are unhappy and dissatisfied creating content, readers can sense that. So, the prerequisite is that first you are happy writing about something. And then it needs to be valuable to the readers.
Write about your battles to make readers feel less alone
Every one of us is struggling in some way. Some are fighting a mental illness, some are facing financial hardship, some have lost a loved one, etc.
Write about what challenges you are facing in life, and what issues you are going through. It will make the readers feel less alone. It will give them the solace that they are not the only one.
Write about the ways you are dealing with the challenges, and how you are planning to cope with them, what steps you have taken. It will help the readers to gain actionable insights. They can learn from your journey no matter how bumpy it is.
Write a personal story that’s relatable
You like writing about your thoughts, feelings, and emotions. It helps you feel connected to yourself and gain clarity, right?
But it won’t help the readers if it is not relatable. Write your personal story in a way that it evokes a sense of belonging in the readers.
Trust me it feels so relieving to relate to your story on the personal loss if I have gone through the same.
By sharing your personal story in a thoughtful and meaningful way, you can make a positive impact on your readers’ lives and bring more meaning and purpose to your own writing journey.
Write like you are preparing a sweet dish for your guests
Suppose you are a great chef and it gives you real pleasure to cook tasty and healthy delicacies. Now you would want to prepare something tasty for your guests that will make them say Wow, that’s delicious.
Write like you are offering a sweet dish to your readers.
Not only the process of writing will give you pleasure but making the readers go Wow will make you dance with joy.
Takeaway
I had a great time writing this article. And I believe that if my writing is coming from a pure place then it is bound to resonate with some people who will like it.
Offer your content as a service to the reader thinking about how it might benefit or help the reader.
What the holy scriptures tells us about performing our work is:
Our work is ultimately an offering to God (Romans 12:1)
Here is what the Holy Hindu scripture Bhagvad Gita says:
Performing all works as an offering unto Me, constantly meditate on Me as the Supreme
We should also consider our writing as a service or work offered unto the God dwelling in the readers.
