Why Most of the ‘Sane’ People Irks Me
Seriously! When will people start to take mental health seriously?

The Time magazine article the other day showcased Greta Thunberg as Time’s Person of the year. I read that article and wondered how much deep slumber we are in. The news and reports of climate change are not fear-mongering. It is pure science. Still, we are habitual of living in an old rut and going on about our lives with blind cuffs.
I think, more than the world leaders, we, the masses are to be blamed. When an idea gets to the groups and starts vehemently demanding it, leaders will have to listen and respond! And they will consequently bring in the needed reforms and enact laws.
The article also mentioned that she is suffering from Asperger’s syndrome, and that’s why she has been able to take in all of the fame, threats in her stride without getting too affected.
This terming of someone as mentally ill by so-called ‘normal’ psychiatrists sometimes makes me ponder that it is based on the premise that some people are ‘more normal’ than others. But what if I tell you that those well-informed people who are in the majority are themselves deranged by my measure? Will you believe me?
As per current societal norms if the majority is abnormal, then the rest of the people who are special souls will be called ‘abnormal’.
And anyway, who are they to name others as mentally ill or ‘abnormal.’ As per current societal norms, if the majority as abnormal, then the rest of the people who are specially-blessed souls will be called ‘abnormal.’ And as Paulo Coelho famously said:
Collective madness is called sanity
And then the Naomi Osaka fiasco happened. Naomi Osaka just told the French Open organizers that she has been suffering from bouts of depression for some years now. Given that she is not a native English speaker, the press reporters asking “important” questions cause her anxiety.
So, she frankly submitted that she wouldn’t attend these press conferences to take care of her mental health. What she said was in this tweet:
She later clarified as well:
“More importantly I would never trivialize mental health or use the term lightly. The truth is that I suffered long bouts of depression since the US Open in 2018 and I have had a really hard time coping with that. Anyone that knows me knows I’m introverted, and anyone that has seen me at tournaments will notice that I’m often wearing headphones as that helps dulls my social anxiety.”
What irked me a great deal is that instead of empathizing with her and supporting her decision, the officials penalized her! Because all they care about is money. Humanity and Empathy have completely been erased from their dictionary.
Some tennis stars came in favor of Naomi Osaka. Some spoke against her, and one of them is Boris Becker, a legendary tennis layer who blasted Naomi Osaka for her decision to take care of her mental health first. I am quoting him here:
“You’re 23, you’re healthy, you’re wealthy, your family is good. Where’s the f — king pressure?”
So, according to him, if you are physically healthy and wealthy, you can’t be suffering from mental health issues, what the f — ! When such ‘educated’ and ‘sane’ people have such an opinion on mental health, what can we expect from the ‘illiterate’ and ‘insane’ people?
What do you think about sanity? What is your take on what is ‘normal’ and what’s ‘abnormal’?
