Even if they make me happy

Recently, I bought myself a Casio keyboard after mustering the courage to spend $150. I earn roughly $1200 per month in India which is sufficient, I guess, for a decent living.

I showed my mother my new Keyboard on a video call. Instead of going WoW!, she told me she didn’t like the glowing keys in the Keyboard. She also asked from where did I borrow it.

She knows pretty well what music means to me. Still!

This is not the first incident. I met with a similar response when I had purchased a keypad phone ($50). I did that for a digital detox. And for that purchase, I had to hear, numerous times, how extravagant I spend.

Then they asked me if spending $100 on a Kindle was worth it!
